A Rock Hill man was critically injured Friday morning after he was shot while inside a house east of downtown, police said.

The 21-year-old victim, who has not been identified, remains hospitalized at Piedmont Medical Center.

The shooting happened before 12:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South Jones Avenue between Black Street and Flint Street, according to a Rock Hill Police Department statement. The area is mainly residential.

Officers responding to the sound of gunshots found the victim wounded inside the house, police said. It remains unclear if other people were in the house at the time.

The shot that hit the victim came from outside, but it is unclear if the shot was fired by someone on foot or in a vehicle, Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis said.

No other people or homes are believed to have been hit, Chavis said.

The shooting is believed to be an isolated incident, he said. The motive remains under investigation.

The shooting is the third in the city in about a month. Police made arrests in fatal shootings that happened June 27 on Finley Road and July 7 on Wilson Street.
