Man hurt in self-defense shooting at Rock Hill mall, police say
A person shot at a mall in Rock Hill Friday afternoon will face an assault charge because the person who shot him acted in self-defense, police said.
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. at the Rock Hill Galleria, according to a written statement from the Rock Hill Police Department.
Martrell Telly Minter, 26, of Chester, was shot in the shoulder, the department said. He was treated at the scene and hospitalized.
The investigation showed the shooter, who has not been identified, was accosted “both verbally and physically.”
The person fired the gun in self-defense for protection, the statement said.
No charges will be issued against the shooter, police said.
Police have not said what led to the altercation.
Minter faces a charge of third-degree assault and battery, police said.
The mall is located off Dave Lyle Boulevard near Interstate 77 Exit 79.
There was a large law enforcement presence at the mall after the shooting but there was no threat to the public later Friday afternoon, Lt. Michael Chavis said.
