Interested in school choice? Rock Hill district information fair is Monday
Rock Hill students can choose from language immersion, arts, Montessori and a variety of other academic tracks.
Students generally must attend a public school based on where they live. The Rock Hill school district offers choice programs, specialized programs that students can apply to attend. It does not matter if they are zoned to attend that school, The Herald previously reported.
“Rock Hill Schools recognizes that each student is unique, and our choice programs offer families options to best meet the needs of each child and to nurture students’ talents, interests and aptitudes,” reads a release from the district. “Like traditional school settings, choice programs foster parental involvement and high expectations, and give parents the opportunity to choose the school that will meet their child’s needs.”
Rock Hill offers seven school choice programs. Parents can learn about the programs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center, 785 Saluda Street.
Choice programs also will be highlighted during the district-wide expo 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jan. 25, 2020 at South Pointe High School, 801 Neely Road.
Parents also can learn about programs by taking a school tour. Dates and times are available on the district’s website.
Families interested in school choice must apply online. The application is open Monday through Feb. 28, 2020. Families will be notified of acceptance in early March.
Transportation is provided to students enrolled in a district choice program.
Rock Hill’s choice programs are:
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) - offered at Oakdale Elementary, Saluda Trail Middle and South Pointe High School
- Accelerated studies - offered at Sunset Park Center for Accelerated Studies

- International Baccalaureate - offered at Rosewood Elementary, Sullivan Middle, Northwestern High, Rock Hill High and South Pointe High
