Wintry weather prompts cancellations, delays at York County region schools
All York County school districts have canceled after-school activities Thursday due to weather conditions.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for York County Thursday, with the possibility of ice forming on roads Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Up to an inch-and-a-half of snow could accumulate in the Rock Hill area.
Challenger in Rock Hill will remain open for students to be picked up, according to the district. Parents are encouraged to get their students as soon as possible after school Thursday.
Fort Mill’s Flyers program and Boys and Girls Clubs will operate as normal Thursday after school.
In York, the Boys and Girls Club, after-school clubs and athletics are canceled Thursday.
All York County schools will open on a two-hour delay Friday.
Rock Hill’s four-year-old kindergarten morning programs at the Central Child Development Center and Applied Technology Center along with T3 classes are canceled Friday.
Half-day four-year-old kindergarten programs in Fort Mill are canceled Friday.
York Preparatory Academy, a public charter school in Rock Hill, canceled after-school activities Thursday. The school will open on a two-hour delay Friday.
The Riverwalk Academy charter school in Rock Hill also canceled after-school activities Thursday. Riverwalk will open on a one-hour delay Friday. There is no Lions Den morning program Friday.
The Lancaster and Chester County school districts also canceled after-school activities Thursday. Lancaster and Chester County schools will open on a three-hour delay Friday.
Clinton College in Rock Hill closed at 3 p.m. Thursday and will open on a two-hour delay Friday.
Winthrop University canceled remaining classes starting at 5 p.m. Thursday and will open on a delay Friday, officials said. The campus will open at 10 a.m. Friday.
York Technical College in Rock Hill will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, according to an announcement from the school. The college will open at 10 a.m. Friday.
