Woman ‘too busy’ to return one-day SUV rental from Texas keeps it for weeks, WA cops say
A 33-year-old woman rented an SUV for one day in Texas but never returned it for over a month because she was “too busy,” Washington deputies said.
The woman and the white Dodge Durango were found at about 6:45 a.m. Dec 5 in Spokane Valley, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The driver had rented the SUV Oct. 20 in Dallas and was supposed to return it the next day, deputies said.
She drove it across the country to Spokane and never returned it because she “became too busy to return it,” deputies said.
The woman told authorities she tried to contact the rental company to extend her rental but didn’t have luck getting in touch with them, deputies said.
She also said the company warned her the vehicle would be reported stolen if she didn’t return it, deputies said.
Deputies said the woman had the SUV for 46 days before she was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
“The Dallas Fort Worth Airport Police Department was informed that the vehicle had been recovered, but attempts to notify the rental agency were unsuccessful,” authorities said.
