95-year-old missing for weeks is found dead 135 miles away at Arkansas Air Force base
A 95-year-old woman who disappeared in February without a trace was found dead in a remote part of an Arkansas Air Force Base, police told news outlets.
Belva Day went missing on Feb. 6, after she paid her utility bill at an electric company in her home city of Mountain Home, per previous McClatchy News reporting. After that, her beige Buick LeSabre was spotted traveling south, but the trail went cold.
Her car was found by maintenance crews at Little Rock Air Force Base on March 4, according to the Mountain Home Observer. Officials told police a body was found inside the vehicle, the paper reported.
KTLO, a radio station, reported her car was found in a ravine on base property.
The Air Force base is about a 135-mile drive from Mountain Home and an 85-mile drive from Southside, where Day’s car was last seen on surveillance footage, according to McClatchy News reporting.
The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory will conduct an autopsy, according to KY3.
Day’s lack of technology made the search harder, McClatchy News reported. With no cellphone, debit cards, credit cards or OnStar in her vehicle, authorities had to rely on surveillance footage.
Day wasn’t diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
