Man shoots hospital co-worker because he didn’t get invitation to funeral, MI cops say
A man is accused of shooting a hospital co-worker because he was not invited to a private funeral for the victim’s father, according to Michigan authorities and news reports.
The shooting happened March 20 in the parking garage of the Corewell Beaumont Troy Hospital, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said.
The victim had just worked his shift at the hospital when 21-year-old Robert Paljusevic fired seven shots at him, the prosecutor said.
The 25-year-old victim was struck in the arm, and his vehicle was also hit by the gunfire, Troy police said in a news briefing streamed by WPBN.
Police described the shooting as a “targeted event” between the accused gunman and victim, who were previously friends.
Prosecutors said Paljusevic, who is accused of fleeing after the shooting, was arrested at his home.
The victim “appears to be recovering from his injury,” McDonald said.
Accused gunman had ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ personality, victim says
Interviewed in the hospital, the victim described a falling out he had with Paljusevic before the shooting, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Troy Police Detective Carlo Pizzorni said in court Paljusevic “was upset that he was not invited” to the private viewing for the victim’s father, who died in January, The Detroit News reported.
“The mother of the man shot allegedly told police that Paljusevic made vulgar comments to the body of the victim’s father at the public viewing,” WWJ reported, citing testimony from Pizzorni in court on March 23.
He later FaceTimed the victim, showing himself urinating on the funeral brochure, according to the detective, WDIV reported. He also told the victim he shouldn’t “be surprised if something happens” when he sees him in public, the detective said.
The victim described Paljusevic as having a “Jekyll and Hyde” personality — sometimes “easygoing” and other times he would “overreact,” Pizzorni said, according to the Free Press.
Paljusevic was charged with assault with intent to murder and felony gun charges, according to the prosecutor. He is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond.
He is due in court March 31.
