Man angry over girlfriend’s ‘imagined infidelity’ kills her mother, CA officials say

A man beat his girlfriend’s mother to death after he “became enraged,” thinking his girlfriend had cheated on him, California prosecutors said.

Now, Kevin Durran Hart, 47, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Jackie Robinson, 65, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said in a March 28 news release.

Hart pleaded not guilty in Robinson’s death when he appeared in court in 2023, The Mercury News reported.

Hart grew upset May 5, 2023, over “imagined infidelity by his girlfriend,” prosecutors said.

He took “his anger out on Mrs. Robinson, his girlfriend’s mother,” and “brutally beat her to death” inside her Seaside home, prosecutors said.

Hart is accused of beating Robinson “with his bare hands and a piece of glass from a nearby table,” prosecutors said, KION-TV reported.

Seaside police arrived at the home to find Hart “covered in blood,” according to prosecutors.

Despite efforts to save her, Robinson died, prosecutors said.

Robinson, who grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, belonged to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and was the senior usher board’s president, according to her obituary.

“Jackie had a very kind and loving heart with a smile that made anyone who came into her presence feel loved,” her obituary says.

She is survived by two daughters, her obituary says.

In addition to a first-degree murder charge, a jury also found Hart guilty of using a deadly weapon in Robinson’s killing, according to prosecutors.

Hart is scheduled to appear in court May 7 for sentencing, prosecutors said, adding that he faces 26 years to life in prison.

Seaside is about a 70-mile drive south from San Jose.
