A man is accused of killing his 76-year-old mother with a broken broomstick handle, Michigan officials say.

Armando Jourdain Streeter, 46, now faces several charges, including second-degree murder, following the April 5 death of his mother in their St. Clair Shores home, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

Loretta Streeter, 76, was discovered dead with “the end of a broom stick impaled in one of her eyes,” the Macomb Daily reported.

When her other son found her, he called 911, but he was then “hit with an object on the head” by Armando Streeter, the St. Clair Shores Sentinel reported, citing police. Armando Streeter continued to attack his brother and tried to strangle him, according to the news outlet.

A motive for the attacks is unclear.

Armando Streeter was arrested and charged with murder and assault with intent to murder, the prosecutor said. He was jailed without bond.

“These allegations are extremely serious and deeply concerning. This terrible act of violence cannot be tolerated, and we will fully pursue justice to the full extent of the law,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a statement.

The Shores Sentinel reported Armando Streeter was previously imprisoned for 22 years following an assault with intent to commit murder conviction. He was released from prison in 2024.

Macomb County is about a 35-mile drive northeast from Detroit.
