Man kills wife while child she’s babysitting is in stroller nearby, NM cops say
A 47-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his wife while a child was close by in a stroller, police in New Mexico said.
The wife was babysitting for a relative when she and her husband got into an argument, New Mexico State Police said in an April 13 post on Facebook.
The husband “allegedly retrieved a knife and stabbed his wife while the child was in a nearby stroller,” police said.
Afterward, he “reportedly called a family member and stated he had killed his wife,” according to police.
McClatchy News isn’t naming him pending formal charges being filed.
When police arrived at the Santa Fe home April 12, “officers received a clothing description of the possible suspect. Shortly thereafter, an officer located a male matching the description and who had what appeared to be blood on his hands,” police said, noting the man “was detained and identified as” the husband.
First responders “attempted life saving measures” on the wife, but she died at the scene, police said.
The husband was arrested and booked into jail in connection with first-degree murder and a child abuse charge, police said.
