Missing boater’s body recovered from Colorado reservoir after three-day search
The body of a missing boater was recovered from a Colorado reservoir after a three-day search, wildlife officials said.
“Difficult weather conditions, strong winds and dense vegetation made the three-day search challenging” for the several agencies and dive teams involved in the search, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in an April 14 news release.
Park rangers first responded to an overturned canoe with two people in the water at Spinney Mountain State Park just before noon Saturday, April 12, officials said in the release.
One person in the frigid reservoir was rescued by a nearby boat, officials said. The other boater vanished under the surface.
Life jackets were found inside the boat, but it doesn’t appear the adult victim was wearing one, officials said.
The Park County Coroner will identify the body and release their identity, officials said. The park resumed normal operations Tuesday.
“Spring and early summer water recreation can be dangerous due to frigid water temperatures,” officials said. “Always wear a life jacket while boating, kayaking, paddle boarding and enjoying water recreation in Colorado. Spinney Reservoir can experience sudden wind gusts and frigid temperatures year-round, so be sure to check the weather forecast before visiting the area.”
Spinney Mountain State Park is about a 60-mile drive northwest from Colorado Springs.
