A man accused of killing his Uber driver and dumping her body will now spend the rest of his life in prison, a Pennsylvania court ruled.

Calvin Anthony Crew, 26, had previously been convicted of first-degree murder, among other charges, following the Feb. 10, 2022, fatal shooting of Christina Spicuzza, a 38-year-old mother of four from Monroeville, according to court records and previous McClatchy News reporting.

Spicuzza’s body was discovered two days after she picked up Crew, who was riding as a passenger in her Uber vehicle, Allegheny County police said at the time. She had been shot one time.

Dashcam video from Spicuzza’s vehicle helped identify Crew as the suspect in the shooting, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, citing an affidavit. Crew was seen pointing a handgun to the back of his driver’s head and demanded she continue driving.

Do what I say and everything will be alright,” Crew said, according to the criminal complaint obtained by WTAE. Seconds later, Crew was seen grabbing the camera and ending the video.

Testimony from Crew’s girlfriend led authorities to the then-22-year-old suspect, McClatchy News reported.

In February, Crew was found guilty of homicide, kidnapping to commit a felony, tampering with physical evidence and multiple robbery and firearm charges, court records show.

The Post Gazette said Crew plans to appeal his conviction, having maintained his innocence throughout the court proceedings.

Crew received a life sentence in prison on May 5, according to the court records.

It’s a sentence Spicuzza’s family pushed for, despite Crew being eligible for the death penalty.

“You should have the death penalty, but we showed mercy,” Cindy Spicuzza, Christina’s mom said in court, WTAE reported.

Christina Spicuzza was engaged and was a mother to four children, Andrea, Drew, Scotty, and Tori, according to an obituary.

“Anyone who knew Christi knew her smile could light up every room she was in,” the obituary states. “No matter what was going on in her life, Christi was always smiling, always positive, and always loving.”

Monroeville is an eastern suburb of Pittsburgh.
