A 25-year-old microbiologist was found face down on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound in her torso, Pennsylvania prosecutors said.

Alyssa Wiest was shot just after midnight on May 18 in Conshohocken, Montgomery County prosecutors said in a news release. Around the same time, a witness said they saw Wiest’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Michael Dutkiewicz, standing near his truck, then leaving the scene, according to prosecutors.

Wiest was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, authorities said.

Detectives searched the area and found the door to Wiest’s home open and a trail of blood leading from the home to where she was found on the sidewalk, according to prosecutors.

Fiive projectiles were found, investigators said. Some were near Wiest’s body, while others were in the home.

License plate readers identified Dutkiewicz’s truck leaving the area around the time police were called, according to prosecutors. He was identified as the suspected shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He turned himself into police and was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder and possessing an instrument of crime, officials said.

The couple had been dating for two years, prosecutors said.

Dutkiewicz is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.

Conshohocken is about a 15-mile drive northwest from Philadelphia.
