Mom repays child in meth after she pays for daughter’s dance ticket, MO cops say
UPDATE: This story has been updated to note that the dance was not sponsored by the school district but occurred on school grounds, according to a statement from the district.
The story continues below.
A mother is accused of giving methamphetamine to a girl after she paid for her daughter to go to a dance on school grounds, Missouri deputies said.
The woman was charged with distribution of a controlled substance in a protected location on May 28, according to a criminal complaint.
Her attorney information was not listed.
The exchange of drugs occurred at a public school in the Ridgeway R-V School District in Ridgeway on March 15, the criminal complaint said, but the juvenile told deputies she had smoked meth with the mother at her residence in the past.
The dance was sponsored by a third-party community group and was held on the district’s campus, Ridgeway Superintendent Jonnie Beavers told McClatchy News in an email. The child was not a student at Ridgeway, Beavers said.
“We are cooperating fully with law enforcement officials as they investigate this matter and will continue to do so moving forward,” she said.
The sale was reported to deputies by the girl on May 7, a probable cause statement said. The juvenile told deputies this was not the first time the mother had paid her in drugs, according to the affidavit.
The woman is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.
She has been held in jail since May 1 on a separate child neglect charge, according to jail records. Her bond was set at $50,000.
Ridgeway is about a 100-mile drive northeast from Kansas City.
