Man shoots at girlfriend, then he’s shot dead by her roommate, Tennessee cops say
A Tennessee man is accused of shooting and killing his roommate’s boyfriend after the couple got in a violent argument, police said.
Officers responded to the shooting at about 1 p.m. Sunday, July 13, outside of an apartment complex in Memphis, according to an affidavit filed in Shelby County.
There, police said they found a man — identified as Timothy Echols — suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was then taken to a hospital where he died, police said.
The man accused of shooting Echols, 27-year-old Tajee Turnage, was still there when police arrived, according to the affidavit. He told officers he was working as a security guard when his roommate called him and said Echols had taken one of his guns and shot at her, police said.
Turnage then went to the apartment, but on his way there he told police he saw Echols pointing a gun at him from a car, police said.
That’s when Turnage said he shot at him, and Echols fell out of the car, according to the affidavit.
Turnage’s roommate also told officers at the scene she called him and asked to be picked up after Echols, her boyfriend, shot at her during an argument, police said.
Turnage was arrested on a first degree murder charge, police said. He is set to appear in court July 15, according to jail records.
