Want to vote in SC’s Democratic presidential primary? You have 48 hours to register.
Voters who want to participate in South Carolina’s Feb. 29 Democratic presidential primary are running out of time to register.
The final day to register is Thursday, according to the State Election Commission.
The state’s primary falls on a Saturday and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Twelve Democratic presidential candidates will be on the Feb. 29 ballot, according to the Election Commission.
South Carolina has an open primary system. That means a voter does not have to be a registered Democrat to cast a ballot in the primary. South Carolina voters don’t have to register by party.
The state’s Republican Party executive committee voted to skip the party’s 2020 presidential preference primary, The State reported.
South Carolina residents who are 17 can vote in the primary as long as they turn 18 on or before the Nov. 3 general election.
People who want to register can download registration forms on the State Election Commission’s website and residents also can check their voter registration.
Voters should complete the registration form and return it to the York County voter registration office by Thursday through mail, fax or email. Voters also can register in person at the York County office, 6 S. Congress Street in York. The office closes at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
