York, Fort Mill, Tega Cay candidates to speak in upcoming forums. How to participate
The York County Regional Chamber will host three forums next week for York, Fort Mill and Tega Cay candidates running for various seats, including mayor, city and town council.
The dozens of candidates will appear on the ballots for the Nov. 2 municipal elections.
Absentee voting for the elections began on Oct. 4. All ballots must be returned to the York County elections office, 6 S. Congress St., by Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
York forum
The chamber will hold a forum for York City Council candidates on Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The forum will be held in person at Liberty Baptist Church, 410 Blessed Hope Rd. in York.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a meet-and-greet session. The forum will be moderated by Regional Chamber Board Chairperson Amy Faulkenberry.
The candidates will include:
- District 1 city council candidates Steve Love (incumbent) and Matthew Hickey
- District 5 city council candidates Denise Lowry (incumbent) and Charles Brewer
- District 6 city council candidate Kellie Wine Harrold
Fort Mill forum
The chamber will hold a forum for Fort Mill Town Council candidates on Oct. 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The forum will be virtual.
The forum, a partnership with the Fort Mill Economic Partners, will be moderated by CN2 News’ Lucas McFadden.
The candidates will include:
- Ward 1 town council candidates James Shirey (incumbent), Allen Garrison and Chris Powers
- Ward 3 town council candidates Sherita Watts and Ben Hudgins
- At-large town council candidates Matt Vilardebo and Chris Wolfe
Tega Cay forum
The chamber will hold a forum for Tega Cay city council and mayoral candidates on Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The forum will be virtual. Residents can watch the forum on Comporium channel 115/126 and on Facebook here.
The forum will be moderated by CN2 News’ Lucas McFadden.
The candidates will include:
- Mayoral candidates Chris Gray and Heather Overman
- At-large City Council candidates Liz Duda, Christoph Halverson, Thomas Hyslip and Scott Shirley
There are two at-large town council seats up for election.
