Rock Hill’s 2022 city council election is Tuesday. How to vote in the three ward races
Rock Hill voters living in key parts of the city will have the chance Tuesday to cast ballots for city council candidates.
Six candidates are running for seats representing the city’s Wards 4, 5 and 6. Council voted several months ago to delay the ward races, which originally were scheduled for October, until city officials could redraw its six voting districts. Redistricting is required every 10 years based on new census data.
In Ward 4, which covers the northwestern part of the city and has the highest population, incumbent John Black is running against newcomer Maggie Schwietert.
In Ward 5, which includes East Main Street and the southern part of the city, incumbent Nikita Jackson is running against youth football coach Perry Sutton and newcomer Kenneth Harris.
Incumbent Jim Reno is running unopposed for Ward 6, which covers Winthrop University and runs up to the Catawba River.
In order to vote in Tuesday’s election, residents must respectively live in Wards 4, 5 and 6. Residents can find more ward information on the city’s website.
Polls will open Tuesday at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Absentee voting began on Jan. 10. The last day to vote absentee is Feb. 7 at the York County elections office, 6 S. Congress St.
Voters can find information on precinct locations on the county’s elections office site.
