For folks who want to represent cities and towns across the Rock Hill region, it’s time to put pen to paper.

Candidate filing is open for communities large and small. Most for elections are in early November, though the largest city in the area comes sooner. Rock Hill holds its municipal election Oct. 17.

Candidate filing in Rock Hill ends at 5 p.m. Friday. Wards 1, 2 and 3 are open. As of noon Monday, four candidates filed for those seats. Incumbents Derrick Lindsay filed for Ward 1 and Kevin Sutton for Ward 3. In Ward 2, Brent Faulkenberry and Hope Matthews filed.

Anyone interested in filing can get more information online at scvotes.org.

The general election Nov. 7 includes a swath of decisions across the area.

In York County, elections will be held in Fort Mill, Clover, York, Tega Cay, Hickory Grove, McConnells, Smyrna and Sharon. Lancaster County has municipal elections for Van Wyck, Kershaw and Heath Springs seats. Lowrys, Fort Lawn and Richburg hold town elections in Chester County.

For the York County seats, filing runs through 5 p.m. Sept. 8. The filed candidates listed below are all as of noon Monday.

Fort Mill will elect its mayor and three council seats. Incumbents Lisa Cook, Ronnie Helms and Chris Moody have respectively filed for their seats.

Clover has its mayor and three town council seats up for vote. No candidates are shown on the state election listing site.

York will elect a mayor and three council seats. Mayor Mike Fuesser is the only listed candidate, for the same position.

Tega Cay has two city council seats on the ballot. Ron Kirby and Carmen Miller are on the candidate list.

Hickory Grove, McConnells, Sharon and Smyrna each elect a mayor and four council seats. Ashley Glenn filed for a council seat in Sharon.

In Lancaster County, Heath Springs and Van Wyck each have two council seats up for vote. Iva Drakeford, Howard Mickle and Vincent Webb are on the list for Heath Springs. Loyd Fox, Kristen Setzer and Kyle Starnes are candidates in Van Wyck.

Kershaw will elect a mayor and three council seats. Mike Dorman filed for mayor. Bobbie Faulkenberry, Michael Cook and Randy Seegars filed for council seats.

Candidates aren’t yet listed for Lowrys, Fort Lawn and Richburg seats in Chester County.

Upcoming elections follow others in the area already this year. Watts Huckabee won a seat on York County Council in January, filling the remainder of state Rep. Brandon Guffey’s term when Guffey left the county seat for that state role. In March, Great Falls elected Keevi Worthy to fill an unexpired term on its town council.

Chester elected Mayor Carlos Williams and city council members David Claytor, Ursula Crosby and Wade Young in May.
