4 NC resorts rank among the best in the South, according to Travel + Leisure
Looking for a little rest and relaxation this summer? You may want to add a few North Carolina resorts that have been named among the best in the South to your travel bucket list.
As part of its annual “World’s Best Awards,” which spotlights the best travel experiences around the globe, Travel + Leisure revealed the 15 best hotels in the region.
Based on facilities, location, service, food and value, four properties in North Carolina ranked among the top hotels and inns for a relaxing getaway:
Old Edwards Inn & Spa (No. 7)
Location: 445 Main St, Highlands, NC 28741
Designed to offer “relaxed luxury in the Blue Ridge Mountains,” Old Edwards Inn & Spa is a European-style mountaintop resort with farm-fed restaurants, a spa, fitness center and more.
As one Travel + Leisure reader wrote in a review, “Old Edwards is a beautiful inn conveniently located right in town. It was convenient [for] dining, shopping, and hiking trails … The whole inn was very charming and would be wonderful for small groups traveling together.”
The Inn on Biltmore Estate (No. 11)
Location: 1 Lodge St, Asheville, NC 28803
Extend a visit at “America’s largest home” with a stay at the Inn at Biltmore in Asheville. Aside from the many amenities you can experience at the estate — including hiking, wine tastings, carriage rides and guided tours — guests at the Inn can also enjoy world class dining options and spa treatments.
High Hampton (No. 13)
Location: 1525 State Rte 107 #1525, Cashiers, NC 28717
Nestled at the edge of a private lake, High Hampton is a historic hotel that’s been restored and updated with modern amenities to offer a taste of “rustic mountain luxury.” The Blue Ridge Mountain hotel — located in a 100-year-old building — has a long list of on-property amenities, including golf, tennis, a fitness center, pool and more.
Pinehurst Resort (No. 14)
Location: 80 Carolina Vista Dr, Pinehurst, NC 28374
Of course, Pinehurst is known for its many 18-hole courses. But it’s also home to four historic hotels: The Carolina Hotel, The Holly Inn, The Magnolia Inn and the Manor, with many things to do and enjoy from a coffee house and retail outlet to pools and bars.
In 2023, five North Carolina resorts ranked among the top stays in the South, including:
