‘Resilient’ cats lived in car after owner lost home. Then came some great news
Two “resilient” cats spent weeks living in a car — then their luck took a turn for the better.
A North Carolina shelter shared the good news that feline friends Sykey and Almond got a new home — together.
“These two resilient girls endured the unimaginable, living in a car for two weeks after their owner lost her home,” the Franklin County Animal Shelter wrote Dec. 2 in a Facebook post. “I made a promise to their owner that I would keep them together, and their guardian angel has made that dream a reality!”
Sykey and Almond were adopted after a journey that started in mid-November. The two were surrendered when “their previous owner faced a housing crisis,” the shelter wrote in a past social media post and an email to McClatchy News.
The shelter said the living situation was a “testament to the challenges” the cats faced. As the two struggled with being away from their owner, both became known for being “sweet” and “loving.”
Sykey was described as a “confident and playful girl, while Almond is having trouble adjusting and is currently timid, but with patience and love, she will blossom.”
At one point, the two cats were separated. But the shelter hoped they would land in a “new home together, where they can thrive and flourish.”
Then, after weeks of waiting, Sykey and Almond got their second chance. A heartwarming photo posted on Facebook shows the two with a shelter worker and their new owner as they kicked off their next chapter together.
“What a glorious day,” the shelter wrote.
The Franklin County Animal Shelter is in Louisburg, a roughly 30-mile drive northeast from Raleigh.
