Police in North Carolina are investigating a homicide after they said a missing woman was found dead in the woods, news outlets report.

Heather Williams, 25, was last seen on Jan. 4 in Fayetteville, according to a missing person’s report from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Home security footage showed Williams leave home and get into the car with someone, according to WRAL.

Police said she got into a light-colored sedan before she disappeared.

“Seeing her get into a car, we don’t know who she got into a car with. It’s eerie, it’s at nighttime,” her sister, Mary Williams, told WNCN.

Williams was reported as an endangered missing person because she had cognitive impairment, affecting her speech, police said.

Her family told WRAL she was struck by a car in 2015 but worked hard over the years to recover and have a normal life.

On Jan. 10, Williams’ body was found in a wooded area, police told WNCN.

Maj. Lee Hicks told The Fayetteville Observer that officers found her body at about 5 p.m. and that her death is being investigated a homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 910-723-0327 or CrimeStoppers, the outlet reported.

I pray whoever is responsible for this is held accountable and there is justice for Heather,” Mary Williams wrote on Facebook.

“Our family finds comfort in the love that Heather had for God and through all her trials and tribulations, she has never lost her faith and I know we won’t lose ours either. I thank God for the years we had with her. Thank you everyone who has prayed, reached out and helped us to try to find her. Please continue to pray for my parents,” she wrote.

Police have not released a cause of death.
