Remains found in woods now identified as man who vanished a year ago, NC cops say
Human remains were found in the North Carolina woods, and now they’ve been identified as a man who vanished a year ago, officials said.
David Sylvester Mobley was reported missing in the Greensboro area after he was last seen in February or March 2024. Then about one year later, on March 5, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office revealed that he had been found dead.
Mobley, 49, was a father who prioritized his family. He was a triplet but hadn’t spoken to one of his sisters in months, raising concern and sparking a search for clues, WFMY reported in August.
“We do things all as a family and now that he is not in the picture… it’s so… it’s different,” Dacia Mobley told the TV station.
Then on October 17, human remains were discovered in the Greensboro area, deputies wrote in news releases. The remains, “consisting primarily of skeletal bones,” were taken to a medical examiner as the sheriff’s office shared a description of clothes that were found nearby.
Months later, deputies announced that the remains belonged to David Sylvester Mobley. But mystery still lingers in the case.
“The GCSO continues to collaborate with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death,” deputies wrote in an updated news release. “This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is urged to contact Detective J. Allen at 336-641-2799 or Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.”
