A man waiting for a city bus got “upset” when it didn’t stop as expected, and resorted to shooting at it, according to investigators in eastern North Carolina.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of 5th and Nash streets in Greenville, and a suspect was found not far away, Greenville police said in a Feb. 4 news release. The site is adjacent to a city park, maps show.

“When officers arrived, they located the bus, which had been struck by a bullet. Fortunately, no one was injured,” police said.

“Officers arrested 37-year-old Rakiem Dangelo Ruffin at the scene. Ruffin indicated to officers he was upset the bus did not stop for him.”

Ten people were aboard the bus at the time, including the driver, officials said.

Ruffin is charged with 10 counts of assault with a deadly weapon (one for each passenger and the driver) and is being held without bond, police said.

He is also charged with:

  • Shooting in an occupied vehicle
  • Discharging a weapon in city limits
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession of firearm by felon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon.

Greenville is about an 80-mile drive southeast from downtown Raleigh.
