The suspect in a hit-and-run crash died minutes later when he wrecked yet again, and his car flipped over, according to investigators in North Carolina.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in downtown Greensboro, and “impairment is suspected,” the Greensboro Police Department said in a news release.

“A preliminary investigation indicates Jefferson Lumby Zeledon was driving an Acura RSX when he committed a hit-and-run in downtown Greensboro and then began to drive recklessly and at a high rate of speed down South Benbow Road,” police said.

“As he approached the T-intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, he ran off-road straight and struck a parked Chevy Cobalt. His vehicle flipped and came to rest in the woods.”

Zeledon, 29, died at the scene and two passengers in his car were hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. Details of their conditions were not released.

A crash reconstruction investigation is underway. “Speed was a factor in the crash,” police said.

Details of the earlier hit-and-run crash were not released.

Greensboro is about a 90-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
