Teenager killed when dirt bike crashes head-on with classic car, SC officials say

A teenager was killed and another person was injured Wednesday when a dirt bike and a classic car were in a head-on crash, South Carolina officials said.

Trebian Jesiah Davis–Simpkins, a 19-year-old Bradley resident, died in the accident, according to Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 7:10 p.m., according to Master Trooper Gary Miller of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Davis–Simpkins was driving a dirt bike north on Broadway Avenue, and near the intersection with Carolina Street collided with a southbound 1981 Ford Mustang, Miller said. That’s in the Promised Land Subdivision.

Davis–Simpkins died at the scene from blunt force trauma, according to the coroner’s office.

The Mustang driver was taken to an area hospital, Miller said. Further information on that driver’s condition was not available.

Miller said the drivers were the only occupants, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Davis-Simpkins was wearing a helmet, or if the Mustang driver was wearing a seat belt.

Information about what caused the head-on crash was not available, but it continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through Wednesday, 679 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 11 people have died in Greenwood County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 13 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
