Search for driver in hit-and-run crash that killed a woman, Columbia police say

A search is underway for a driver who was involved in a recent hit-and-run crash that killed a woman, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Javashia C. Morris, a 37-year-old Columbia resident, was the victim, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said Tuesday. Police said Morris died five days before her 38th birthday.

The two-vehicle collision happened after 11 p.m. on Jan. 25, police said.

A silver Honda Odyssey, made between 2005-07, was involved in the wreck in the 7700 block of Caughman Road before driving away, police said. That’s in the area between Garners Ferry Road and Leesburg Road.

The Honda collided with the woman’s vehicle, which caused her to be ejected, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.

To help in the search for the wanted driver, police released surveillance pictures of the Honda.

Police said the Honda has significant front-end damage and is missing a front bumper/grill.

Anyone with information about the crash, or the driver, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

The Columbia Police Department released pictures of a vehicle it said was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash.
