South Carolina woman killed in crash that left two others hospitalized, coroner says

A Midlands woman was killed Saturday when the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a crash that left two other people hospitalized, according to the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office.

Bridget Gay Baker, a 49-year-old Lee County resident, died in what Coroner David West called an accident.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 3:30 p.m. in Kershaw County, said Lance Cpl. Lena Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Baker was driving a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Lucknow Road, according to Butler. At the intersection with Frost Road, a 2024 Kia SUV that was driving north on Lucknow Road was turning left when it collided with the motorcycle, officials said.

Baker, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene, according to West. Baker was the only person riding on the motorcycle, Butler said.

Both the SUV driver and a passenger were injured and taken to an area hospital, Butler said. Further information on their conditions was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if either of the people in the SUV were wearing seat belts.

Neither Butler nor West said if the crash continues to be investigated.

Through Jan. 26, at least 33 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least one person has died in a Kershaw County crash in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 10 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
