One person killed in crash near military base in South Carolina, law enforcement says
One person was killed Sunday when a motorcycle and car crashed on a busy Richland County road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The collision happened at about 3:10 p.m., said Cpl. Nick Pye.
A 2018 Ford sedan was driving west on Garners Ferry Road, according to Pye. As the car turned left onto South Carolina Road it was hit by a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was heading east on Garners Ferry Road, Pye said. That’s near the entrance of McEntire Joint National Guard Base in the Eastover area of Richland County.
The motorcycle rider died, according to Pye.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.
Pye said the Ford driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, or if the driver was wearing a seat belt., but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Jan. 26, at least 33 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least four people have died in Richland County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 52 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
One of those deadly wrecks happened Saturday afternoon.
A 2014 Ford Focus was driving west on Clemson Road, and near the intersection with Old Clemson Road the Ford ran off the left side of the road and flipped over, according to the Highway Patrol. The driver, who was the only person in the Ford, died at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
There was also another fatal motorcycle crash in the Midlands Saturday afternoon.
A 49-year-old Lee County resident was killed when the 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle she was driving south on Lucknow Road collided with a 2024 Kia SUV that was heading north and was turning left onto Frost Road, according to the Highway Patrol.
The woman riding the motorcycle died at the scene, while both the driver and a passenger in the SUV were injured and taken to an area hospital, Butler said. Further information on their conditions was not available.
