Man caught looking up woman’s dress is a registered sex offender, SC cops say
A South Carolina man who was recently caught looking up a woman’s dress at a Midlands business was arrested and revealed to be a registered sex offender, according to the Sumter Police Department.
Joshua Scott, a 58-year-old Kingstree resident, was arrested April 25 on a voyeurism charge, police said in a news release.
The incident happened April 3, according to the release. At about 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a Broad Street business where a man, later identified as Scott, was seen following female customers before getting on the floor and looking up one woman’s dress, police said. When he was addressed by employees, Scott ran out of the store, according to the release.
Video surveillance was used to identify and locate Scott, police said.
Scott was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, according to the release. Bond was set at $500 and has not been posted, Sumter County court records show.
Despite Scott’s arrest, an investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who might have had an encounter with him to call 803-436-2700.
Scott has been convicted two times (in 2001 and 2010) for peeping, voyeurism or aggravated voyeurism charges, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division sex offender registry.
In 2018, Scott pleaded guilty to another sex crime when he was convicted on an indecent exposure charge, Sumter County court records show.
