Two people killed in crash with truck, South Carolina officials say

Two people were killed Monday night when the motorcycle they were riding was involved in a crash with a truck, South Carolina officials said.

The collision happened at about 6:25 p.m. in Spartanburg County, said Cpl. David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was driving east on S.C. 14, according to Jones. Near the intersection with Oak Grove Road the motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of a 2007 Dodge truck that was driving west on S.C. 14, Jones said. That’s not far from the state line separating South Carolina and North Carolina.

A passenger on the motorcycle died at the scene, according to Jones. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said 36-year-old Travelers Rest resident Sarah Brittany McElrath was the passenger, WSPA reported.

The Harley-Davidson driver suffered critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital, according to Jones. The coroner’s office said the driver, 60-year-old Bobby Goode, died at the hospital at 10 p.m., WYFF reported.

Jones said the truck driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

Information about what caused the vehicles to collide was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 316 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 34 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
