South Carolina university mourns death of Midlands teenager killed in crash

A Midlands teenager was recently killed and the Palmetto State university where she was a student mourned her death Sunday.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of Morgan Entzminger, a bright and promising member of our tight-knit Bulldog family,” South Carolina State University vice president for student affairs Dr. Tamara Jeffries said in a news release. “At S.C. State, we are more than a campus — we are a family — and this loss is felt deeply across our university.”

Entzminger, an 18-year-old Blythewood resident, died in what Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill called an accident.

On June 8, Entzminger was involved in a vehicle crash on S.C. 215 in Blair, according to the coroner’s office. The teen was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia where she died last Tuesday, 9 days after the wreck, the coroner’s office said.

Further information about the deadly collision was not available.

Entzminger was a rising sophomore biology major, S.C. State officials said in a news release.

“Morgan touched the lives of many with her kindness, determination, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence and personal growth,” S.C. State Student Government Association President Zaria Tucker said in the release. “As we mourn this tremendous loss, we remember Morgan not only as a student, but as a valued member of the Bulldog family whose presence brought joy and inspiration to those around her.”

Any S.C. State students seeking help following Entzminger’s death are encouraged to reach out to the university’s Counseling & Self-Development Center at sjacks51@scsu.edu or at 803-536-8698.

A funeral service will be held for Entzminger on June 28, and will be followed by her burial, according to an obituary. Both will be held at Little Zion Baptist Church in Blythewood.

“I extend our deepest condolences to Morgan’s family, friends and all who knew and loved her,” Jeffries said. “We are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Morgan will be remembered for the light she brought to our campus, and she will be deeply missed.”
