Lowe’s in South Carolina was scene of West Virginia man’s death, coroner says

A man was killed Sunday at a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in South Carolina, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

Ray C. Straight, a 43-year-old West Virginia resident, is the man who died in what Coroner Darryl Ables called an accident.

At about 5 p.m., members of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety and Aiken County EMS responded to a construction accident at the Lowe’s at 1220 Knox Ave., the coroner’s office said in a news release. That’s not far from the state line between South Carolina and Georgia.

First responders administered CPR, but Straight died at the scene, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about the construction accident, and if Straight was a construction worker, was not available.

No cause of death was announced, but an autopsy will be performed in Newberry, the coroner’s office said.

Both the coroner’s office and North Augusta Department of Public Safety are continuing to investigate Straight’s death.
