Manhunt ends and two men are arrested after a another was shot, SC police say
The search for a wanted man ended Tuesday when the second man connected to a shooting in South Carolina was arrested, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Keshawn Potter, 21, was taken into custody, police said at about 1 p.m. Rymyro Simmons, 25, was arrested Monday, according to police.
Both men were charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police said.
The charges are connected to a June 18 shooting in the 4100 block of Trenholm Road, according to police. A man who police said was an acquaintance of Potter and Simmons was shot multiple times. That’s near the intersection with Beltline Boulevard.
Information on the victim’s condition was not available.
There was no word on a motive for the shooting, which continues to be investigated by police.
Simmons is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show. He was also charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and battery as well as malicious injury to personal property (less than $2,000) and no bond has been set, according to jail records.
Potter will be booked at the Richland County jail, police said.
At the time of the recent shooting, Potter was out on bail from a July 9, 2024, arrest when the Columbia resident was charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm or ammunition by person convicted of certain crimes, Richland County court records show. Those charges are pending, according to court records.
In 2023, Potter pleaded guilty to an unlawful carrying of pistol charge, court records show.
