Body pulled from South Carolina lake after man jumped off boat, officials say
A body was pulled from a South Carolina lake Sunday and the death is being investigated as a possible drowning, officials said.
At about 12:30 p.m., the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office responded to Lake Moultrie, Coroner Darnell Hartwell said Monday in a news release.
The body that was recovered was identified as 58-year-old Ladson resident Kenneth Evans, according to the release.
Initial reports indicate that Evans jumped from a boat to swim and did not immediately resurface, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said. He was unresponsive when found, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
No other injuries were reported.
No cause of death was announced, but Hartwell said that an autopsy has been scheduled to determine both that and Evans’ manner of death.
The death continues to be investigated by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and coroner’s office.
Members of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, Central Berkeley Fire & Rescue, North Berkeley Fire & Rescue and the Berkeley County EMS also responded to this incident.
Information where Evans’ body was recovered was not available, and there was no word about the depth of water in the lake where the body was found.
Lake Moultrie covers 60,400 acres, has 210 miles of shoreline and has a maximum depth of about 75 feet, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
