Circle K parking space fight lands one in hospital, another in jail, SC cops say
A fight over a parking space at a Circle K in Columbia led to a shooting, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Cedric Simon, 34, was arrested after the Monday shooting that left another man hospitalized, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
At about 9:45 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the Circle K convenience store/gas station in the 7900 block of Parklane Road, according to the release. That’s near a stretch of S.C. 277 between Interstate 20 and Interstate 77.
Deputies found a man who had been shot in the lower body, the sheriff’s department said. EMS took the victim to an area hospital, according to the release. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
An investigation showed that Simon was angry about the victim’s choice of parking space at the Circle K, the sheriff’s department said. Simon started arguing with the victim then pulled out a gun, according to the release.
As the argument continued, Simon shot in the direction of the victim, who suffered an injury to his leg, the sheriff’s department said.
No other injuries were reported.
While Simon left in a vehicle before the deputies arrived, the sheriff’s department learned that the wanted man was arrested in Georgia on Monday night, according to the release. There was no word about where in Georgia Simon was taken into custody, and what charges he’s facing in the Peach State.
When he’s extradited back to South Carolina, Simon will be charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime for his role in the shooting at the Columbia Circle K, the sheriff’s department said.
