Deputies searching for wanted man saw him run out the back door, SC sheriff says

A multiday manhunt in South Carolina came to an end Wednesday when a wanted man was arrested, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

An anonymous tip led deputies to 26-year-old Cordell Wyman Clark, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. But even when they located Clark, he continued running, according to the release.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said deputies searched for Clark on Tuesday and Wednesday until they received a tip saying that he was at a home on Reedy O. Smith Road in Leesville.

“As deputies approached the house, Clark ran out the back door,” Koon said in the release. “We brought in a K-9 and our drone team to track him.”

Deputies and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents found Clark in a house in the 500 block of Perry Taylor Road, according to Koon. That’s about half a mile from the Reedy O. Smith Road home where Clark was initially seen.

Clark was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center where he was charged with resisting arrest and failure to stop for a blue light, according to the release. His bond was set at $15,000 on the combined charges and Clark remains locked up, jail records show.

“The search for Clark, who was already a wanted subject in Aiken County, started with a shooting reported to us on Perry Taylor Road Tuesday afternoon,” Koon said. “No one was injured or hit in the shooting; however, we are still looking into what happened.”

Information about why Clark was wanted in Aiken County was not available. Court records show that the Batesburg resident has been arrested multiple times in Aiken County over the past 5 years.
