Dozens of shots fired overnight in Richland County gunfire, SC sheriff says
A recent early morning shooting in South Carolina has prompted an investigation, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
At about 1 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Fox Grove Circle, the sheriff’s department said Monday in a news release. That’s in a part of Columbia not far from the Lake Carolina area.
Deputies made contact with several home owners that heard multiple shots fired in the neighborhood, according to the release.
While multiple homes were hit by gunfire, no shooting victims were reported, the sheriff’s department said.
Deputies established a crime scene and located dozens of bullet casings, but the shooter — or shooters — had already left the area, according to the release.
There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or the number of people involved.
No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is continuing to investigate the shooting.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 803-576-3000, Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, or submit an online tip.
In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
This was one of at least three shootings reported in Richland County in as many days.
At about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies were flagged down and led to a man who had been shot in the lower body in the area of Beatty Road and Kay Street, according to the sheriff’s department.
The victim was taken to an area hospital and no arrests have been reported.
On Sunday afternoon, officers responded to a shooting at the Vista Towers apartment complex, according to the Columbia Police Department. A 40-year-old man had been shot and killed and his 18-year-old relative was arrested on a murder charge, police said.
