SC man charged with murder after being tracked down by US Marshals, cops say

A South Carolina man was arrested after another man was killed in a recent shooting, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Quentin Williams Jr., a 21-year-old Orangeburg resident, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release.

The charges are connected to a Sept. 6 shooting at the Roosevelt Garden Apartments on Presidential Drive, according to the sheriff’s office. At about 11:30 p.m., 28-year-old Orangeburg resident Cameron Ryant was shot and killed, the sheriff’s office said.

While between buildings at the apartment complex, Williams shot Ryant in the back, according to an arrest warrant.

Ryant died at the scene, Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle said.

Williams was seen shooting Ryant in surveillance footage, according to an arrest warrant. He left the apartment complex and wasn’t arrested until Monday, when he was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to the sheriff’s office.

No bond was set for Williams, who is scheduled to return to court on the charges Nov. 19, Orangeburg County judicial records show.

“This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to take someone’s life and for what?” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. “Nothing in this world is worth taking someone’s life.”

This was not the first time that Williams was arrested for a violent crime.

In July 2024, Williams was charged with pointing and presenting firearms at a person, two counts of armed robbery, grand larceny (value more than $2,000 but less than $10,000), possession of a weapon during a violent crime and criminal conspiracy, court records show. Bond was set at $140,000 on those combined charges, which are pending, according to court records.
