Arrest made after man was shot and killed over Thanksgiving weekend, SC cops say

Days after a man was shot multiple times and killed, another South Carolina man was charged with murder, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to murder, 62-year-old Eulese Patterson also was charged with possession of a firearm by a violent felon, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and armed robbery with a deadly weapon, the sheriff’s department said Tuesday in a news release.

The charges are connected to the Nov. 27 death of 65-year-old Columbia resident Perry Richardson, officials said.

At about 7:45 p.m. last Saturday, deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 5300 block of Fairfield Road, according to the release. That’s near a convenience store and a Family Dollar in a part of Columbia near North Main Street.

Deputies found a man, later identified as Richardson, inside a vehicle, the sheriff’s department said. He had been shot multiple times, according to the release.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting, the sheriff’s department said.

No other injuries were reported.

During an investigation, deputies learned that Patterson was the shooter, the sheriff’s department said. Information about how Patterson was identified as the gunman wasn’t available, and the sheriff’s department said it’s still working to determine what led to the shooting.

There was no word if Patterson and Richardson knew each other prior to the gunfire.

On Monday afternoon, Patterson was located at his home in Richland County and was taken into custody before being booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to the release. No bond has been set for Patterson, who remains locked up, jail records show.

Despite Patterson’s arrest, the sheriff’s department and Richland County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s department 803-576-3000, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip online.

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
