Teen driver killed when car runs off SC road & crashes into woods, officials say
A teenager was killed Friday night when a car crashed in South Carolina, according to officials.
Kade M. Hinson, a 19-year-old Kershaw County resident, is the driver who died in what Kershaw County Coroner David West called an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 9:50 p.m., said Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Hinson was driving a 2011 Hyundai sedan west on Payne Pond Road, according to Bennett. At the intersection with Pine Tree Lane the Hyundai ran off the right side of the road and crashed into a tree, Bennett said.
The Hyundai was found in the woods and Hinson died at the scene, according to West.
Hinson was the only person in the Hyundai, and no other injuries were reported, Bennett said.
There was no word if Hinson was wearing a seatbelt.
Information about what caused the Hyundai to veer off the road was not available, and the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Dec. 7, at least 822 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
