Person walking on busy Richland County road killed in crash, SC cops say
One person was killed Sunday night in a crash near a popular shopping center in Richland County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision happened at about 7 p.m. in the northeast area of Richland County, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.
A pedestrian who was walking on Two Notch Road, near the intersection with Jabay Drive, was hit by a 2025 Toyota Camry, according to Ridgeway. That’s close to the Village at Sandhill shopping center, in the area that’s densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants.
The car was driving south on Two Notch Road when the collision happened, Ridgeway said.
The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Ridgeway.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim.
Ridgeway said the Toyota driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol. It was not clear if darkness played a factor in the collision, as sunset was listed at 5:16 p.m.
The deadly wreck occurred about a week after another pedestrian died in crash in the same area.
At about 5:40 p.m. Dec. 6, another person was walking on Two Notch Road and was hit by two vehicles, according to the Highway Patrol. That pedestrian also died at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
Through Dec. 7, at least 822 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 47 people have died in Richland County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 52 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
