Man charged with murder after body was found in a yard, SC sheriff says

A South Carolina man was charged with murder days after a body was found in the yard of a home, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Dashawn Trevalle Hankinson, a 32-year-old Aiken resident, was arrested Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. In addition to murder, Hankinson also was charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the release.

The charges stem from the shooting death of Reginald Young III, the sheriff’s office said.

On May 20, a shooting happened at about 5:50 p.m. at a home on Dallas Circle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responding to the shooting found Young’s body in the yard, the sheriff’s office said. He had been shot at least once and died at the scene, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

Hankinson shot Young in the chest, an arrest warrant shows. There was no word on a motive for the shooting.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about how Hankinson was identified as the gunman was not available.

Members of the sheriff’s office and the U.S. Marshals Service took Hankinson into custody and he was booked at the Aiken County Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said. No bond has been set for Hankinson, who remains behind bars, jail records show.
