Moped driver killed after York County crash with van near Rock Hill, trooper says

A moped driver was killed in York County Tuesday night after a collision with a van near Rock Hill, officials said.

The moped was struck from behind by the van around 6:40 p.m. on U.S. 21 near Neely Store Road, said Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver of the moped died in the crash, Jones said. The van driver was not hurt.

The name of the person killed has not yet been released by the York County Coroner’s Office.

The wreck remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and S.C. Department of Public Safety. The area is south of where U.S. 21, also called South Anderson Road, intersects with Interstate 77.

The fatal collision is the second in York County in 2023, public safety statistics show.
