Commute hampered by heavy traffic after I-77 crashes in York County, Charlotte

Traffic for commuters between Rock Hill and Charlotte Thursday morning on Interstate 77 was slow in several places, officials said.

The S.C. Highway Patrol reported incidents on I-77 near mile markers 89 and 88, between Fort Mill and the North Carolina state line, the agency Web site showed.

S.C. Department of Transportation cameras live feeds showed slow traffic in much of northern York County on I-77 north Thursday that continued after 8:30 a.m.

The area near the state line is the busiest commuter spot in York County with more than 190,000 vehicles per day, an analysis of commuter patterns done by The Herald showed.

Another crash in Charlotte on I-77 near the Woodlawn Road exit between the state line and uptown Charlotte also was causing commuter delays, WBTV reported.
