Two busy intersections in Fort Mill will close for a week amid upgrades to improve traffic.

The S.C. 160 and Market Street intersection is the main entrance to Baxter’s commercial area, filled with restaurants and shops. The S.C. 160 and Munn Road intersection is near several large employers, Kingsley and Fort Mill High School.

Both intersections will close June 14 and be closed about seven days, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

The half-mile detour for the Munn Road closure will use U.S. 21 and Harris Road. Drivers can use Assembly Drive to get around the Market Street closure.

S.C. 160 sees nearly 23,000 vehicle trips per day in the area, according to transportation department traffic counts.

The closures are part of an interchange upgrade at Interstate 77 and S.C. 160. The $160 million project will add bridges and ramps, and it includes S.C. 160 widening near the interchange. It’s expected to be completed by late next year.
