Rock Hill area schools + York County offices closed Monday. Tuesday? Plans unclear

All Rock Hill area school districts will close campuses for Monday, but no decision has been made yet about the rest of the week as icy roads and very cold temperatures remain.

Citing the expectation road conditions will worsen Sunday night as a National Weather Service ice storm warning remains in effect, York County also will close its offices and facilities on Monday.

Fort Mill, Clover, York, and Rock Hill school districts all advised families Saturday night schools would use e-learning Monday. On Sunday, school districts in neighboring Lancaster County, which includes Indian Land, and Chester County announced closures.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools are closed Monday, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Colleges cancel in-person school Monday

Winthrop University in Rock Hill has online learning Monday. The school said it expects to have dining services open unless power goes out. Support staff for facilities and campus police officers will be on campus Monday.

York Technical College has canceled all activities for Monday at both Rock Hill and Chester campuses and will have online learning.

Clinton College students will have online classes Monday, with the Rock Hill campus closed for all in-person activities.

Other government closings

York County officials decided Sunday afternoon to close its offices and facilities on Monday.

That would include all 16 county collection and recycling centers and the county landfill, county spokesperson Greg Suskin told The Herald.

What about Tuesday?

School and government officials have not yet decided about Tuesday closings. Icy road conditions remain and potential power outages are possible, officials said.

The NWS weather forecast shows a high of around 40 degrees in the afternoon, but with a low of 12 degrees Monday night into Tuesday. It remains unclear if Monday’s warmup above freezing will be enough to help clear secondary roads.
