‘Wet & wild’: Rain, tornadoes possible for York, Chester Lancaster, officials say
Heavy rain and wind is expected to lash York, Chester and Lancaster counties Wednesday night and all day Thursday, officials said.
There is even a possibility of localized flooding and tornadoes, emergency management officials said.
The weather could include more than 3 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Greer. Thursday’s forecast for rain? 100 percent, according to the weather service.
National Weather Service forecasters called the expected weather a “wet & wild storm” with widespread heavy rain at times, and the potential for stronger thunderstorms through Thursday.
The forecast for Rock Hill shows as much as 3.15 inches of rain, with Chester at 3.3 inches The forecast for Lancaster County shows 2-3 inches.
Some of those thunderstorms could be severe, according to the weather service. A hazardous weather statement was issued by the weather service that lasts through Friday.
This week’s storm has the possibility of high winds and even tornadoes, said Darren Player, Lancaster County Emergency Management Director. With the ground already wet from recent rains, trees could be toppled, Player said.
“For this area to get 2 or 3 inches of rain in a stretch is a lot,” Player said. “It could pose a danger for trees to come down and for flooding creeks.”
With heavy rain comes the possibility of flooded roads, officials said
