Rock Hill native, South Pointe alum Jadeveon Clowney signs with Tennessee Titans
One of South Pointe High School’s most famous alumni has found a new home.
Jadeveon Clowney, a Rock Hill native and a USC Gamecock who was the overall No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL draft, signed a one-year contract worth up to $15 million with the Tennessee Titans, national media reports say.
The move effectively put a punctuation mark on another eventful offseason for Clowney, who has entered free agency twice in as many years.
In 2019, Clowney played 13 games in Seattle, where he notched one interception (which he took for a touchdown), two fumble recoveries, 31 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Before that, he spent his first five years in the NFL with the Houston Texans and was selected for the Pro Bowl three times.
Clowney will be reunited with Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who was on the Houston Texans’ staff during Clowney’s first three seasons.
Clowney regularly returns to his hometown, where his foundation, called HIT, partners with local organizations and hosts youth football camps.
The 2020 NFL season begins Sept. 10, when the Texans travel to play the Kansas City Chiefs. The Titans are slated to open their season against the Denver Broncos on the following Monday, Sept. 14.
