Ardrey Kell promotes defensive coordinator Carter Green to head football coach
Ardrey Kell High School had a lot of success looking inward the last time it hired a head football coach.
The Knights are doing that again.
Ardrey Kell has named longtime defensive coordinator Carter Green as its new head football coach.
“I’m extremely excited,” Green said. “This is something I’ve been preparing for, for a long time. I’m equal parts excited and thankful that the administration would have that kind of faith in me, and I’m thankful for all the student-athletes I’ve had that helped put me in this position. I’m ready to get rolling.”
Green, 31, will replace Greg Jachym, who stepped down last month. Jachym coached the Knights for seven seasons, starting in 2019. Jachym never had a losing season and had his best year in 2019, when Ardrey Kell finished 11-2.
Jachym coached at Ardrey Kell for 19 years total.
Green will be the sixth coach in school history, following Marty Woolbright (2006-09), Adam Hastings (2010-14), Joe Evans (2015-16), Kyle Brey (2017-18) and Jachym.

Green is from Greensboro and was a wide receiver for the 2011 4A state championship team from Page High School.
Green later attended North Carolina, where he became a student manager for the Tar Heels’ football team.
After graduating from UNC with a master’s degree in 2017, Green started working at Ardrey Kell.
In the past nine years, Green has coached receivers, been junior varsity defensive coordinator and junior varsity head coach. For the past six years, he’s been defensive coordinator for Jachym’s varsity team.
Now, he’s in charge.
“There’s a lot of things we’ve done here that coach Jachym put in place that I love,” Green said, “but my goal is to build a consistent championship-caliber team, and we’ll do that with hard work. I once heard the term, ‘irrational competitiveness’ and it stuck with me. But that’s what we’ll do. We’re going to compete in everything.”
